NWSFRA (formerly known as GHSRA) was formed in 1954, and has been providing referees to the North Western suburbs of Sydney continuously over 50 seasons in particular Gladesville Hornsby Football Association (originally Hornsby-Epping FA) and North West Sydney Womens Soccer (formed in 1981 as Gladesville-Hornsby WSA). In 2024, NWSFRA has over 480 members.

A number of NWSFRA members have progressed to receive their FIFA Referees Badges including Richard Lorenc, Tim Davies, John McConnell (jnr) and Jenny Bray. Current FIFA Assistant Referees Stewart Lockrey and John Peacock.
